The Beauty of Mini-beasts

We catch sight of small creatures flying past on warm spring and summer days, or may hear them buzzing with activity. Sometime we even notice a wasp, bee or a fly sitting basking on a plant or going about their own business, but how often do we actually LOOK when we are out in the countryside? It is so amazing to go out and just look – stand in one place and survey the area around you and see what you can find. Below is a gallery of images that I have taken this week, all within about 3 miles of home. How beautiful and how colourful are some of our insects – what variety there is. Just look!

I’ve been besotted with the beautiful colours of damselfly and dragonflies over the past few years but here are everyday common species that we just walk past every day.
