  • Wigan 10 win GB Cup Nature and Open Sections

At then end of my second year with Wigan 10 Foto Club, was very pleased that we have again won both sections of the Great British Cup. This is run by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain for their member clubs. This year almost British GB photo clubs entered the contest in each of the two sections. The following were my images that W10 chose to represent them in the Open Section: Below are my nature images that were used:

  • End of Year round up of some of my favourite images from 2014

My end of the year round up is a selection of some of the pictures I have enjoyed making the most over the past year. To share their blushes, I have left out family portraits…naturally they would be at the very top of the list – pictures that bring back memories of the events of the year, from the birthday of my grand-daughter in January to the birth of my second grandson in July and the birthday of my first grandson in November – moments to treasure…along with the photos of my father with his new great-grandson only a week before he suffered a stroke which took his life. These…

  • The BPE Associateship

The National Exhibitions which are members of the BPE (British Photographic Exhibitions) offer a Crown award system to reward photographers for success in having works accepted for national exhibitions. Up to and including the 5 crown award, a photographer must have a minimum of 300 accepted works in member exhibitions. Those achieving the 5 Crown Award are then invited to move on to the Associateship  Award, which requires a minimum of a further 100 acceptances in members exhibitions plus twenty national awards using at least 10 different pieces of work, all to be gained after achieving the 5 Crown Award. I was very pleased to be awarded the Associateship in…

  • My first year with Wigan 10

What a week it has been to round off my first year with Wigan 10. At the end of last week, we heard that we had won the second round in our section of the PSA International Interclub Nature competitions…a very pleasing result in our first season. We are also leading in our section in the Creative competitions. Last weekend, some of my team-mates from Wigan 10 spent a weekend in Paris as guests of FIAP, to be presented with the World Cup for Clubs. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go but spent a superb weekend judging the Southport Open with fellow judges Leigh Preston and Richard Speirs. The weekend rounded up…

  • Classical Ballet Photos

A rare opportunity arose last week, with Wigan 10, to photograph some classical ballet dancers. It was very short notice…we found out just hours before the shoot that both the dancers and the studio would be available…and while I was preparing for the shoot, I started to reminisce about times past when a visit to the ballet was quite a common occurrence and one which I loved. As a child I dreamed of ballet lessons and I used to walk past the ballet shop in town on a Saturday afternoon and gaze at the ballet and tap shoes and wonder what it would be like to be on the stage!…
