Macro Water Drops with Refraction
Whilst preparing a talk on macro photography to deliver at one of my photographic clubs, I became fascinated by the tiny world of images refracted through water droplets. There are some incredibly beautiful examples to be seen on the web and my offerings here are a first attempt. As with everything in life, we become better by practice and I have already discovered some of the things that I have done wrong so far, so with a little patience, hopefully my next attempts will be better. I was delighted to meet a very talented artist recently in the persona of Professor Cornelius Nocturne and have taken a few liberties with my portrait of him with his Time Machine, but I hope that he will approve!

Season of Mist
We’ve had a wonderful few days of early autumn sunshine but this morning brought our first autumnal fog. A little exposure compensation is needed for taking pictures in fog as the automatic metering in the camera integrates to grey, so I added one stop and that seemed about right. I didn’t find the conditions spectacular as they can be during a temperature inversion, but I love Saddleworth Moor and Binn Green, so I just captured a few pictures. Click to enlarge.
