    From the same spot as the Whitby Pier pictures below, this one shows the old town and the erosion and landslips near the church. It’s taken from the pier, accessed on foot only, via Church Street. It’s a proper photo (or is it?).

    Memories Here is “Memories”, deconstructed. I hope you enjoy. First I selected my foreground and background images. Originally I was intending to use a level cracked earth for this one, but it didn’t work with the back ground I had chosen. Images can evolve depending on what I happen to have in stock!

  • Building an Image – “The Lair”

    My club lecture “Building an Image” deals with my method of working and how my images are created. This snippet shows the building of a recent image and I’ve picked out some key stages, though not all the layers are shown. The working title of this image is  “The Lair”. The starting point is a trompe-l’œil. Most of the building is real and three dimensional but the hole in the front is faked. The enticing message “this is a photo-opportunity” means you can’t really walk past it without being tempted to take a shot!   • HDR Photography – Oloneo HDRengine versus Photoshop CS5

    It’s quite a while now since I did any comparative work on HDR. I have previously superficially examined Photomatix V3 and Picturenaut. For some time after that, I mostly used Photomatix version 3. I never upgraded to version 4 because, by that time, I had found that Photoshop’s HDR engine was relatively easy to use and worked seamlessly with Lightroom. So, I have tended to migrate gradually away from Photomatix and have been using Photoshop with quite satisfactory results, for example the Media City Panoramas from just a few weeks ago.
