Small Skipper Butterfly
I've managed to get out and about with the camera a few times over the past couple of weeks, searching for insects to photograph. Finding suitable subject matter has been a bit hit and miss, as the weather has been particularly wet, cold and windy at times and Saddleworth can be especially harsh in its climate.

A few more butterflies and bugs
The real excitement of close-up nature photography - how the most mundane and sometime downright ugly creatures can look amazing when all their detail can be seen. So, no apologies for brown butterflies or ugly flies.

Insects
It’s July already and days to be out photographing insects have been few and disappointingly cold! However, with the warmer weather, damselflies and dragonflies are on the wing and butterflies are in evidence. I took the following photographs on a couple of afternoon outings the end of June and early July. One of the pre-requisites this year was to obtain a pair of wellies! This allowed me to venture further into the edge of ponds, giving myself a bit more of a chance to catch the flighty critters. In retrospect, maybe a set of waders would have been a better idea!

Insects in the country parks around home
The warm weather over the last few days has resulted in a visible increase in insects of various kinds in and around the countryside areas of Oldham. I have been able to practice my technique and improve both on backgrounds and on accuracy of focus. Now looking for new sites that will provide some different species.
