Mandarin Ducks
I went with some friends to look for kingfishers but instead we found a group of wild mandarin ducks. Originally from China, these ducks have now become established in the wild. The male has wonderful plumage, with orange feathers each side of the face and feathers sticking up like sails at the back. We were not blessed with strong light but, as the sun went down, the warm colour of the light really brought out the beauty of the birds. There were several pairs and I am sure that we will be going back to visit again.

Pure Drama
I wasn’t able to get more than about half a dozen shots of each of two costume/make-up setups, as the shoot was organised at my photographic society and there were about fifteen other camera toters waiting in line. But Amy was the soul of patience and I eventually got to the front of the queue. I have picked out my three favourites to show here.

A little light frost
Last night was probably the coldest night of the year so far and this morning was a light frost on the garden. here’s little snap that seemed to work quite well in monochrome.
