  • 46th Smethwick International Exhibition Results

I didn’t get around to entering any exhibitions last year, so this year I was lucky to have enough images to enter the Smethwick International, one of my favourites. This is in spite of a rather poor year in producing salon-type creative images, though a rather good year in developing my skills in nature photography. Smethwick was one of the first internationals where we were able to actually visit to see the prints on the wall. We have often travelled down in the snow and ice of the New Year to see the exhibition at the Old Schoolhouse and to meet up with friends…but this year, due to restrictions, it…

  • Southport Open Exhibition of Photography

Southport Exhibition of Photography 2015 This year, Southport Photographic Society are celebrating their 68th Annual Open Exhibition of Photography, run under the auspices of the BPE (British Photographic Exhibitions). I feel that I have had a great affinity for Southport Photographic Society for many years and I hope that I am seen as a friend of the club by their members. Southport was one of the first clubs where I judged a regular photographic competition and one of the first where I delivered a lecture, back in what now seems to be the mist of time and it was the first BPE Exhibition of Photography that I entered, the first…

  • The BPE Associateship

Up to and including the 5 crown award, a photographer must have a minimum of 300 accepted works in member exhibitions. Those achieving the 5 Crown Award are then invited to move on to the Associateship  Award, which requires a minimum of a further 100 acceptances in members exhibitions plus twenty national awards using at least 10 different pieces of work, all to be gained after achieving the 5 Crown Award. I was very pleased to be awarded the Associateship in…

  • The Proposal

    Shrewsbury Exhibition

Delighted with my results from the Shrewsbury Exhibition, where I received nine acceptances (surprisingly, including two in the Landscape section) and two awards. Even more pleased with the score of 14 for my newest image “The Proposal” (below). The couple was spotted in the Royal Mile at the Edinburgh Festival, promoting their show. Although they were holding bunches of leaflets, I managed to hide those from the shot and the young couple were happy to create this pose for me (hope nobody else got it!!!). The moorland background completed the scene. Many of my current batch of images have a sort of “Wuthering Heights” theme, influenced by living in Saddleworth…
