Guernsey Milk Can
It’s not often I photograph an award, but the Guernsey Milk Can award is something just a bit out of the ordinary – in fact it’s rather special! The Guernsey Milk Can is unique to Guernsey and has been made there by local craftsmen for over 1000 years, pre-dating the Norman Conquest and was in use until the first half of the 20th century. It is said to have been brought to the island with cattle from Normandy about 980 AD. The shape of the can prevents too much spillage of the milk in transit and the can is made from copper. Shrewsbury Exhibition
Delighted with my results from the Shrewsbury Exhibition, where I received nine acceptances (surprisingly, including two in the Landscape section) and two awards. Even more pleased with the score of 14 for my newest image “The Proposal” (below). The couple was spotted in the Royal Mile at the Edinburgh Festival, promoting their show. Although they were holding bunches of leaflets, I managed to hide those from the shot and the young couple were happy to create this pose for me (hope nobody else got it!!!). The moorland background completed the scene. Many of my current batch of images have a sort of “Wuthering Heights” theme, influenced by living in Saddleworth…

Making a book with Lightroom 4
Easter has come and just about gone…and the family have returned home…so I must get back to some pressing tasks. The first job to finish is the uploading of a new 100 page book to Blurb…to commemorate my grand-daughter’s first birthday. I’ve done Blurb books before. Originally I used their downloadable and free to use “Booksmart” software…probably the easiest way for a first-time self-publisher to get started. All you need is a computer, the free software and some jpg photos and away you go. My second book was done by creating my own layouts in In-Design, editing the pictures in Photohop and then uploading a pdf to Blurb. I converted…
