  • Conceptual Portraiture, Fantasy and Art

    I love creating unique portraits with a historical twist. I often work with friends who are willing to model for me, and I dress them in costumes I’ve sourced from a variety of places—from charity shops, family and friends and even my own hand-sewn creations. My goal is for the costumes to look authentic and well-made, not like cheap “fancy-dress” outfits from China. It’s also important to me that they fit the model well. Once the model and costume are ready, I begin the photoshoot. Lately, I’ve been working in my home studio, which gives me complete control over the lighting.   • Images for the New Season

    I spent a good part of the summer working on a new talk entitled “What are we going to do about AI?”. It’s purpose is to take a look at how AI is stealthily invading our editing software, how it works, what it does, where it’s going. Having delivered the talk 5 times already, it’s now time to get back to a bit of image editing – of photographs this time! I’ve added a few of my new ones below and you will see that I am back to people pictures in the main. They are mostly new images with a couple of re-edits from the back catalogue. Gallery

  • A Long Winter Take 2 -Tudor Style Portraits

    An update to my Long Winter blog earlier this month. Occupying my thoughts, for some time, has been my hope to set up a photographic studio permanently in my garage. That won’t be possible just yet, so I am carrying all the lighting equipment up to my living room and setting up there. Before Christmas I decided to make some Tudor clothing for Mike. I would stretch my sewing ability as well as my photography and Photoshop skills. I made a Tudor doublet and a “bonnet” style hat and the look was completed with a lace ruff bought on-line.
