Book a Club Lecture

Based in Saddleworth, I am a PermaJet Lecturer and member of Oldham Photographic Society (in the L&CPU). I can offer talks given either in person or on Zoom, depending on distance.

Talks given in person will incur a travel expenses charge. From 2025, a small charge will be made for remotely presented Zoom lectures. All lectures will include an introduction to PermaJet products and my DISCOUNT CODE for PermaJet media.

Please enquire by using the contact page.

About the Lectures

What are we going to do about AI?

This is my latest PDI talk, which explores what AI is, how it was developed and how it is being incorporated into our editing software.

What can AI do, are we allowed to use it in club competitions and where is it going?

Included is information on using AI to make art, with or without combining it with photography and a gallery of my work.

In my View (Printing with PermaJet)

It does what is says on the tin. Prints only, colour and monochrome, all made on top quality PermaJet papers. It can only be given in person and will include a display of PermaJet products and information on how to get the best out of your printing.

The prints are predominantly ones that have been successful in salons – there will be some overlap of images with “Portfolio”.

Portfolio

Portfolio is a PDI talk and can be customised to an extent. Intended to have something for everyone, it will always include lots of photomontage, but can include several sections of other subjects, from nature, portrait, landscape, sport, close up, or even urbexing.

When nature is included, there will be a little overlap with my photographing insects talk.

Photographing Insects in the Field

My way to photograph insects in the field (PDI talk).

Information on what equipment to use, how to achieve enough depth of field and distraction-free backgrounds. Using flash balanced with daylight.

Lots of examples to whet the appetite.

A Victorian Society

The history of the photographic process and the early photographers of Oldham.

In 1867, when photography was still in its infancy, a group of aspiring photographers from Oldham and District met at the Hare and Hounds Inn, Yorkshire Street, and founded the Oldham Photographic Society. Some of these men would provide the early photographic studios in the town. Other Victorian members founded vast empires in cotton and engineering. The talk traces the progress of the society and the lives of its Victorian members.
