Langdale Fells and Blea Tarn
“Lets have a couple of days in the Lake District – the weather forecast is really good.” Although the autumn colours have not yet developed, the bracken is turning brown and the colours on the fells are quite attractive at this time of year and, after all it’s our wedding anniversary…so off we went.
Good Forecast? Well, just don’t believe it. The weather in Cumbria can change from one minute to the next and one valley to the next. Add to that our inevitable BAD CHOICE of when to go anywhere and hey presto, three days of rain with just a glimmer of sun to tease us for a few short spells here and there between torrential downpours and HAIL! Hail, at the beginning of September. Just our luck!
I’d recommend some kind of rain protection for the camera in such conditions – the rain came down so heavily and so quickly that there was not time to put the camera in the rucksack, so a quick coverall is great and I carry one in my pocket. The one I use is from Wildlife Watching Supplies and is a well made a double thickness camouflage fabric. But, even if you don’t have a purpose made cover, be sure to carry a polythene bag for quick and effective protection.
Here are a few shots of the Langdale Fells and BleaTarn taken between heavy downpours.
