• Saddleworth Brass Band Contest

I don’t think of myself as a street photographer, but when the opportunity arises, anything goes as far as photography is concerned. Inspired by my friend Kerstin Arnemann, whose monochrome work is wonderful and who is currently doing a street photography project, I decided to try a little monochrome street photography myself. Last evening’s Saddleworth Band Contest gave me the excuse to get out with my camera and see what I could capture. • Southport Open Exhibition of Photography

Southport Exhibition of Photography 2015 This year, Southport Photographic Society are celebrating their 68th Annual Open Exhibition of Photography, run under the auspices of the BPE (British Photographic Exhibitions). I feel that I have had a great affinity for Southport Photographic Society for many years and I hope that I am seen as a friend of the club by their members. These…

Working with a candidate for the PAGB Awards, as a mentor, I was impressed when he pulled out some good images from his back catalogue of some years; pictures that we hadn’t so far considered. I guess we all have pictures that we take and never do anything with? So, in an idle moment, I had a look through a shoot I did two or three years ago with Mike Lawrence at Haslingden Hall in Cheshire. Haslingden Hall is a Tudor Mansion which is now used as a Hotel. We had access to the hotel for a day in February, working mainly in a freezing marquee in the grounds. The…
