La Défense

Cityscapes

La Défense is an area north of the city of Paris, covering about 80 acres, where most of the tallest buildings in the city can be seen. There were plans from the 1920s to create such an area, but the project did not get underway until the 1950s. The centrepiece of the business park is the Grande Arche de La Défense, a stone-built cube that houses offices and is the counterpoint to the Arc de Triomphe, which can be seen in the distance. There are also many retail outlets and cafes and the business park has its own Metro station. A must-see for photographers visiting Paris.
